Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas (mashed, about 2 cups)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (60 g) chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (more if needed for spreading)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  3. Cream together sugar, sour cream, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  7. If using walnuts, fold them in gently.
  8. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack.
  11. Melt the butter for frosting in a small saucepan over medium heat until light golden brown, about 4–5 minutes.
  12. Whisk in powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
  13. Once the brownies have cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
  14. Cut into squares or bars and enjoy!
