Description

A warm and comforting bowl of Cajun Shrimp Etouffee, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flour to develop a bit of color.
  5. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Watch it thicken beautifully!
  6. Add the Cajun seasoning, shrimp, and heavy cream. Stir gently and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through and tender.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste, deepening those rich flavors.
  8. Serve over fluffy rice and garnish with chopped green onions for a pop of freshness.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add extra cayenne pepper or jalapeños. This dish can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
