Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 container whipped topping
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Mix until well combined; the batter should be creamy and smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake according to package instructions, usually about 30-35 minutes.
  4. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 15 minutes.
  5. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake.
  6. Mix the sweetened condensed milk with the chocolate syrup in a separate bowl. Pour this mixture over the warm cake.
  7. Cool the cake completely, then spread the whipped topping over the top.
  8. Garnish with chocolate shavings or sprinkles if desired.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 120 minutes before serving.
