- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together in a large bowl until creamy.
- Add 2 cups of flour, salt, and vanilla extract; mix until a soft dough forms.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan to create the crust.
- Combine the apple slices with cinnamon and nutmeg in another bowl, tossing to coat, then spread this mixture evenly over the crust.
- Mix together the brown sugar, oats, 1/2 cup of flour, and melted butter in a third bowl until crumbly.
- Sprinkle this crumbly mixture generously over the apple layer.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra delight. These bars can also be made ahead and stored in the fridge.
