- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan, preferably an 8×8 or 9×9 inch pan for the perfect thickness.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Add the all-purpose flour and salt gradually, mixing until the dough begins to form a soft ball.
- Press two-thirds of this mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking pan.
- Combine the cranberries, brown sugar, and orange zest in a separate bowl, then spread evenly over the crust.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the cranberry mixture.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
- Allow to cool completely, then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar and milk before cutting into squares.
Notes
These bars can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container. They freeze beautifully for up to 3 months.
