A comforting dish of tender beef simmered in rich gravy that warms the heart and soul.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef round steak
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef round steak into serving pieces and pound them with a meat mallet to tenderize.
  2. Dredge the meat in flour, shaking off the excess.
  3. Brown the meat on both sides in a large skillet with heated oil until golden.
  4. Set the meat aside after browning.
  5. Sauté the chopped onion in the same skillet until translucent and fragrant.
  6. Create the sauce by stirring in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  7. Combine the browned meat back into the skillet and add the bay leaf.
  8. Simmer covered on low heat for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  9. Serve hot with gravy over creamy mashed potatoes or fluffy rice.
