Description

Create warm and comforting empanada dough perfect for filling with your favorite meats or veggies, ideal for family gatherings or an easy weeknight dinner.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the cold water, a little at a time, until the dough comes together as a ball.
  4. Knead the dough briefly on a floured surface until smooth.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
  7. Fill each circle with desired fillings, fold, and seal the edges.
  8. Bake or fry as desired until golden.

Notes

You may customize the fillings with various meats, veggies, or even sweet ingredients. Store the dough in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
