- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the onions, salt, and pepper.
- Pour half of the cream over the layers, then sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, salt, pepper, cream, and cheese.
- Dot the top layer with butter.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Make scalloped potatoes a day in advance and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before baking for best results.
