Description

A cozy and creamy dish of homemade scalloped potatoes, perfect for family gatherings and chilly evenings.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the onions, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour half of the cream over the layers, then sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
  4. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, salt, pepper, cream, and cheese.
  5. Dot the top layer with butter.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Make scalloped potatoes a day in advance and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before baking for best results.
