Description
This comforting Philly cheesesteak is a crowd-pleaser, perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in. Tender beef, melted provolone, and sautéed onions create an irresistibly rich flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs beef (partially frozen bottom round roast)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 6 footlong bread rolls
- 10 slices provolone cheese
- 1/2 Tbsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp garlic salt
- 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups water
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Prep the beef: Start by slicing your partially frozen bottom round roast into very thin strips.
- Season the beef: In a small bowl, mix the baking soda, vinegar, sugar, garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Pour this marinade over the sliced beef, tossing well to coat. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
- Cook the onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil. Toss in the sliced onions and sauté until they become soft and golden, about 8 minutes.
- Cook the beef: In the same skillet, add the seasoned beef. Brown it on both sides, around 4-5 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and the 2 cups of water, letting it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Combine onions and beef: Add the sautéed onions back into the skillet with the beef, mixing everything thoroughly.
- Assemble the sandwiches: For each roll, lay down a generous portion of the beef-and-onion mixture. Top with 1-2 slices of provolone cheese.
- Serve & enjoy: Serve hot, with your favorite sides.
Notes
